The older designers referred to themselves as "decorators". These included Edith Wharton, author of "The Decoration of Houses", Elsie de Wolf, Eleanor McMillan Brown, the owner and designer of famed McMillen and Company. Mrs. Henry "Sister" Parish II was the first Designer to popularize the Country look of American and mixtures of fabrics such as flowery glazed chintz with gingham, seersucker and many other fabrics together. Her later partner, and still practicing Interior Designer, the "Dean of American Interior Design, Albert Hadley brought a modern compliment to Mrs. Parish's more formal, but unscripted design. Hadley's creation of Brooke Astor's library with it's Sang de Boeuf (oxblood) colored lacquered bookcases still stand as one of the most classic of American Rooms. Modern Interior Design icons are Miles Redd, Rose Tarlow, Bunny Williams, Charlotte Moss, and many more.
