If you are standing by the nose, facing the car, it is on the left side of the engine, all the way in the back. The dipstick can be identified easily by a loop, from which you can pull it out with. At the bottom of the dipstick, there is an indicator so you can test the Transmission Fluid while it is either cold, or hot.

i have a 1996 Mazda protege and it is at the rear of the transmission if you're looking from the front drivers side. it is almost directly under the throttle position sensor which is located on the rear of your throttle body close to the firewall (almost directly in the center of the engine compartment).

On my 1996 Geo Tracker automatic transmission 4wd it's located (in the engine compartment) on the passenger directly behind the intake (to the driver side of the battery) I hope that helps
