The human heart is placed right in front of the left lung.

I am a surgical technology instructor and according to Saunders Surgical Technology Principles and Practice, the heart is contained within a closed cavity called the Mediastinum, between the two lungs, posterior (behind) the sternum, and anterior (in front of) the vertebrae and esophagus.

This is hard to say. Human body is not symmetrical (right-left). We have different organs with different mass densities in different side of our bodies and our metabolism and physiology causes changes in those densities moving the Center of Mass of the Body (CMB) both along the vertical axis and the horizontal axis (sideways and depth-wise) of the body. Yet it is generally assumed that in a seated position, relaxed the CMB is close to the heart level. Please refer to my answer on:
