On older cars it's usually on a sticker on a black box behind the radio or ashtray. Some cars have the code on a sticker in the driver door jam. The arm or support for the trunk is also a good spot. Check in the owner's manual too. On the newer explorers, you'll find the code on a sticker on a black box in the back of the truck on the driver's side behind the plastic just over the wheel well. Sometimes it is located under the deck lid.
