There were many flaws in the Articles of Confederation. One was that they failed to unite the former colonies as one nation. The Articles left too many powers to the states rather than the federal government - in fact, under the Articles states could mint their own currency and levy their own taxes. The Articles also under-represented the states in the legislature. There was only a one-house legislature with an equal number of delegates, and this system failed to account for the differences in population between states.
