It depends on whether you're talking about the Worzel books by Barbara Euphan Todd, or the TV series starring John Pertwee as Gummidge that came out in 1980. In the novels, I think Worzel wore an old bowler hat, though in the TV series, it was just a shapeless floppy cloth hat with a wide, crinkly brim (a bit like the sort that Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull used to wear on stage in the '70s).
