Both the Inner Core and the Outer Core of the Earth are believed to be at a temperature of about 6 000oC. This is the temperature of the surface of the Sun. It is created by gravitational compression, and residual radioactivity in the core materials. Most of the core is iron and nickel, but other heavy elements lie there due to their mass.
