It will not really work out if u paint directly on the box. so you have to cover it with any kind of paper except very thin paper. The very thin paper will just rip. But do not tape your paper to teh box, use glue. Then paint it. Now you can even spray paint the cardboard box, if you desire to.

Yes! But be mindful of the fumes. They are high in VOC(Volatile Organic Compounds) These compounds are bad for the environment and your health. If the box is going to be indoors allow it to fully dry outside. the scent cant be really overwhelming if you have it indoors too soon.

Why not try painting it with ZERO VOC paint? Or is your mind set on using spray paint?

That answer cannot really be answered because different people like using different paint. For beginners, I think acrylics work well because you can easily cover up your mistakes. Watercolor make good paints for making landscape or water. Oils are more for advanced artists who know what they're doing.

Yes but it will not be of archival quality and the cardboard should be sealed with a primer like Gesso.
