This varies greatly from person to person. The Republican party is made up of Christians more than the Democrat party is, but there are still many many Christian Democrats.
More importantly, the Democratic Party has no official position on Christianity, in the same way it has no official position on any other religion. While recognizing the Judeo-Christian roots of the United States, the Democratic Party makes no official pronouncement on the values of any one specific religion.
Generally speaking, current-day Democrats get a bit uncomfortable when talking about religion in a public setting - that is, Democrats tend to very strictly hold to the separation of church and state, wherein it is entirely appropriate for a person to be religious (of whatever denomination they desire), but the use of an individual's particular religious beliefs to create specific public policy enforcing those beliefs is unacceptable.

The Democratic Party has no one view on the death penalty. There are many Democrats who are against it and many who are pro death penalty. Democrats tend to have a wider range of views within their own party, while Republicans are more unified in their beliefs, however wrong those tend to be.
The Republicans had to fart on Washington, so when they did, they had constipation.
Who started the Democratic Party? Who started the Democratic Party?

Christianity is independent of democracy. In democratic societies, Christians often lobby the government and people to pass a Christian agenda (whatever that means). Sometimes Christianity is anti-democratic.
Before there were the two partys, democrat and republican, there was the only party wich was the democratic republican party. President Jackson has his views on democracy. The party became the two current partys and a democrat who has similar views as Jackson did is a Jacksonian democrat.
I'm not sure who the other was but one of them was Robert Kennedy, who was assassinated during the primaries.
