Memphis Art Movement was a style of colourful, eccentric and vibrant designs of furniture which was made during the 1980's.
It was founded by Ettore Sottsass, an Italian designer. The group was made up of the following people:
Alessandro Mendini, Martine Bedin, Andrea Branzi, Aldo Cibic, Michele de Lucchi, Nathalie du Pasquier, Michael Graves, Hans Hollein, Arata Isozaki, Shiro Kuramata, Matteo Thun, Javier Mariscal, George Sowden, Marco Zanini and Barbara Radice.
The group's inspiration was Pop Art, created in 1950, Art deco, Kitsch, also created in 1950 And futuristic items
The group split up for sure in 1988 although the founder, Ettore, had left in 1985. Their work still lives on through today.
