Photo = light. Graph = writing. So a Photo - graph is light writing. When you consider original photographs where in black and white ( or sepia ) you can see it's a literal translation from the Greek.

Photography is originally a greek word so it has the same meaning in greek.

it consists of two words put together. "photo" which derives from "phos" and it means "light" in english, and graphy, which probably derives from graphi , which can mean write or drawing. The exact form in greek is φωτογραφία (fotografia)

No, 'photography' isn't an actual Greek word. Instead, it's an English language word that's formed by combining two Greek language words. Specifically, the noun 'phos'['φῶς'] means 'light'. The noun 'graphé'means 'representation by means of lines' or 'drawing'. Combining the two Greek words into the word 'photography' is intended to give the meaning of 'drawing with light'.
