It is called Erosion.
Coriolis Force
Meandering characterized a river's course when its flow begins to slow. Meanders form when slight irregularities in the flow cause the moving water to be directed towards a bank. This bank then erodes and at this point the river gets wider and the flow slows causing sediment to be deposited against the opposite bank. Eventually the process causes a large bend in the river and the river develops meanders.
l would love to get an answer to this question as l have an old calendar (1960) that was a give away by Pacific Coast Wholesale Drugs of Vancouver. On it is a painting titled Old St Andrews On The red River. The painters name goes something like Hornyansky. Doesnt sound right but that is close.

Meander
All oxbow lakes are formed when a curve of a meandering river gets cut off. There are oxbow lakes along the Amazon River and also the Mississippi River.
A sand deposit will usually occur on the curve of a river. It will show when the river is low, and all of the water will usually flow to the middle or the inside of the curve.Ê
idk.
A curve in a mature or old age river is called a meander and forms when the slightest curve forms and starts to grow larger. This is because on the inside of a curve water moves slower and deposits sediment, and on the outside the exact opposite happpens when faster moving water pounds against the curve making it bigger. In an old age stream when the meanders get big enough the section of river that's curved can actually be cut-off during a flood because water always wants to take the quicker path. The lake that forms when this happens is called and ox-bow lake. It is called this beacue the ox-bow was put on oxen and used to plow fields around the time this kind of lake was named and they had simmilar shapes.

If the river is young it is steep in places and doesn't meander (curve). A mature river isn't so steep and it is starting to form meanders; but be careful because old rivers are completely flat and do have meanders.
because a lot of farming is held in the huangs curve
A horseshoe bend is a curve in a river that is shaped like the letter "U".
