Some purist artists contend that black and white are not colours. For instance, a water-colourist leaves the white of the paper untouched to represent white, and makes a semi-black by mixing other colours. Other artists consider that black and white are colours - the argument is a long standing one.
White is technically the reflection of all colours on the spectrum while black is all colours' absorbtion.
Well -brown is a colour because it can be made by mixing the primary colours ( red, blue and yellow ). But white and black are not colours - they are shades!
