paints last the longest if they are kept above 45 degrees. For example... some people store them in their UN-INSULATED garages, and then come winter, wonder how it froze. It takes quite a while to freeze paint.... probably 2-3 days in 32 degrees F. But it will take 2-3 weeks to thaw that paint sitting in your house on a heater vent. And once paint freezes solid, it is almost useless. It can be thawed out, and taken down to the store and re-shaken to try to re-mix the separated materials, but I wouldn't use it anywhere but like the garage... or a dog house.

Put the lid back on it, and put it in a shed or a garage. Don't leave paint brushes in it though!

One of the best tricks I have found for keeping paint is Once you have cleaned the channel on the rim of the paint can and securely reattached the lid, store the paint can upside down. This ensures the paint is air tight.

Prescription medicine bottles work well. Any air tight hard container would also work well.
