remove the side panel off the door and u can unscrew it from the inside, the easiest way is to buy the switches off eBay (more economical) and replace them then,, remember to plug everything back before u put the panel back because the panels of caprice classics are a lil complicated to put on and take off.. well to me.
Hey Guys,
First, you have to take the horn cover off. There are two Phillips head screws behind the wheel. You'll need a medium size Phillips head. Next there is the horn connector wire... pry the little clip off and gently remove wire. Next you have to remove the little plate covering the mechanism... there should be three cover plate screws to remove. Unscrew the hazard switch and remove it. Next you should see the main steering wheel bolt holding the wheel in place. Use a wrench to remove it. You will probably need a steering wheel puller to remove the wheel. Use the side of the puller that has two parallel openings. Insert the supplied bolts through the openings. Next screw both bolts into the hold and put the main bolt through the center of the puller and make sure to place it firmly against the center of the hub. Gently turn puller until the steering wheel comes off. Next disconnect the covering plate and remove the obvious hardware. You'll now need a funky compressor tool that is the opposite of the puller. Screw the supplied suppressor onto the bolt that held the steering wheel. Next insert the compressor and basically compress it in the reverse direction using the threads against the U shaped compressor.
Now, remove the remaining Phillips screws, then disconnect the harness below the steering column and gently pull the wires out... being careful not to damage them. Replacing them is the reverse of install... Good Luck!
This might be hard to type, but it's simple. The panel with the switch on it, just grab the edges and pull up, it will just pop out. Once it's out, disconnect all the plugs from the back of it. Then, as your looking at the back of the switch, stick a flat head screwdriver in between the housing and the switch and apply a little pressure to the switch. You'll hear it pop, then do the same to the other side and it'll come out. I just changed mine last night in under a minute.
The autos do not have a safety switch....They have a sensor located in the trans itself that tells the ecu if its in neutral/park.....I believe its a 3 pin plug going into the trans itself,.....trace it and see where it leads.....You may be able to hook up a toggle switch..
On the left side of the trans.
It will bolt up to the engine, but the cross member will not work as the 400 is longer than the trans. in the 86. You will also need to make a down shift switch as the 86 trans. has a detent cable, the 400 has an electric switch. There is also the driveshaft issue.
It maybe neutral safety switch .This switch is located around the steering column and tells the key switch the car is in park are neutral. standard trans have a switch on clutch pedal. hope this helps
Inside the transmission, on top of the valve body. Dodge calls it a trs ( trans range sensor)
Have you checked the ignition switch on the column . I had to replace the one in my 1977 Trans Am.
check by drivers door in the bellows between the hinges almost 100%sure there will be broken wire(s)
the neutral safty switch is located in the trans range switch if you have an aw4 auto trans replace or clean and reinstall the switch
You can find a power window wiring diagram for your 1977 through 1979 Pontiac Trans Am in Pontiac service manuals. The service manuals can be found at most local libraries.
If it's factory installed...it's for the rear window defroster.
There is no kill switch on a 1998 Trans Am.
bad switch...check your fueses.. If you have a manual trans the switch in the top of the trans is bad. Look straigtht down from the back of the battery You will see a switch with a two wire plug in the top of the trans. shift tower Unplug the switch andf jump the two wires If your lights come on replace the switch
Reverse switch on trans. is, most-likely, broken or stuck on somehow. You need to check it and/or replace it.
on a auto trans it should be built into neutral safety switch or gear indicator switch there called now its mounted on the shifter input shaft on transmission where the shift cable is attached, on a manual trans it looks like a oil pressure switch screwed into trans body you can get a temp pass on alldata.com to find circuit diagram and location and test procedure for ten bucks
It's usually a good rule of thumb that if you replace the trans, you replace the clutch.
THE SWITCH IS ON THE TRANSMISSION IT IS CALED A TRANS RANGE SWITCH TR SWITCH IT IS MOUNTED ON THE SIDE OF THE TRANS WHERE THE LEVER THAT SHIFTS THE TRANS YOU NEED TO REMOVE THAT LEVER I THINK THE TRANS NEEDS TO BE IN NETERAL THE PART WILL HAVE INST WITH IT HOPE THIS HELPS
Well it depends on the year, however most common are "inhibitor switch" which is on top of the trans under the cooling hoses, American cars call then selector switchs or PRNDL switches, they kind of look the same. ALso they have problems with sensors inside the trans, some years you can replace them other times replace/overhaul the trans.
