Yes, you can. The whole problem with flat paint over satin is the gloss sheen bleeding through the flat finish. I typically do one of two things for a customer when they have this situation: Either I just plan on two coats of the new paint, or I paint the walls with cheap flat white paint and then paint the top coat with the new paint. I prefer the latter, as I always have buckets of cheap flat white leftover, which saves some cash, as the top coat is usually about $30 per gallon.

you cant move down the scale matt, satin, silk, gloss. you can move up
you might be able to dilute the colour, i tend to mix my own paints, with the samplers from diy stores, i suggest you buy a few samplers roughly the same colour as the paint and mix them together well, dont add the samples to quickly as the paint might split.
incidently this is a great way of saving money buy giant pots of bog standard white matt, choose the colour you want on the chart and then buy a colour about 2-3 shades darker then mix with your white. beware you must mix to much in case u run out
YOU can't, but the paint dept where you bought it often can if it's the right base. Take the can to them, many are very helpful and will do changes to paint that they have sold.
Yes, you can generally paint high gloss latex over flat latex paint. But you must do all the preparation work in the best tradition of any professional painter. All "flaking" must be removed and the raw wood primed. This will present a "smooth" surface for the new coating. Additionally, everything that is to be painted my be scrupulously clean and free of anything that will restrict the new latex from sticking to the old.
Yes. You can paint semi-gloss latex paint over flat latex paint. It is not advised to paint over any latex with any oil-based paint. Nor is it advised to try and paint over semi-gloss paint with any other finish without first de-glossing the finish and priming.
you can paint over latex paint with latex enamel.
You will have no problem painting satin over top of flat paint. Just remember to use the appropriate paint that will stick to the old coating. If the old coating is latex (water based) you can go over it with latex or alkyd (oil based) paint. If the old coating is oil based you can only go over it with oil based paint or a hi performance latex that is specialy made to go over oil. Most latex will not stick to oil based paint.
Yes as long as you use the same base paint. You just need to sand it enough to where the paint will adhere. Make sure if the original paint is latex, use latex. If its oil based, use oil based.
