Once the paint is dried and cured, approximately two days, use a short napped roller or fine-haired wide brush to coat the wall with a good grade polycrylic. This is a water-based sealant that will not cause a reaction by introducing an oil-based sealant, like polyurethane, to the painting. If you use a sealant that is not water-based, there is a very strong chance of the painting darkening or becoming yellow. I work as a professional acrylic artist and have had good results with polycrylic. It can be picked up in most home improvement stores. Semi-gloss works best because of glare, but gloss works in some situations where glare is not a problem.

It depends on if you mean as an undercoat sealer, in which case I'd look for a masonry surface conditioner, or as an overcoat, in which case you just need to use a clear acrylic coating which are suitable for foot and vehicle traffic. However, it may not be necessary since latex paint is a sealer and the clear acrylic is essentially a clear paint, free of pigments.

Latex paint has come along way and now they have it for kitchen/bathroom and it's easy to wash later on. Here are tips for painting with latex: * Go to your hardware store and look through the color chips and find the color you like and if you are having problems ask for help. I find Home Depot a great place to get paint and the service is fantastic. Remember that red paint is a difficult color to work with and will need a base coat so the red paint will go on smoothly. If you are using a light color over dark then you also need to base coat your walls first. * Small rooms should be done in light colors to give the room a larger look. * Large rooms can be fun and you could do a darker color on a feature wall. * Cool colors are blue, some greens. Soft colors such as light yellows, all pastel and some mocha's are pleasing to the eye. Dark Mocha's, dark greens, etc., are dramatic colors and should only be used in larger rooms. * *** BE SURE THE PAINT YOU HAVE ON YOUR WALLS IS NOT OIL BASE because Latex paint will not stick to it until you have rough sanded it or put up a base coat on it. * Take all knobs off the doors and if you don't want to take the doors off then tape the hinges with masking tape (less cleaning.) * Fill in all cracks or holes with putty. Let dry and if it needs another application redo it and leave it until it dries. Then 'soft sand' with sandpaper. TIPS TO MAKE YOUR PAINTING LESS PAINFUL: * DON'T buy cheap rollers or paint brushes (go mid range.) I also buy a tiny roller for the 'hard to get places' and my brush are in two sizes ... one 3 inches wide and the other 1 1/2 inches wide. The larger is for woodwork (I have a lot of white woodwork) and the smaller brush is for getting into to tight places. Be sure your brush ends are on an angle so you can use the very tip of the angled brush to get into tiny areas or make a straight line. Your painting is only as good as your equipment. * ALWAYS stir your paint well each time you use it (the Hardware Store will shake the can for you and until you use it leave it sitting upside down!) This keeps the paint mixed well. * Take out your roller pan and place extra strength aluminum foil inside. Then pour your paint. This saves a lot of clean-up even though Latex can be cleaned with water. After you are finished drain any extra paint into the can and then just take the foil out and throw it out and you have a nice clean tray left. * If you are painting and want to stop painting to have dinner or you have guests arrive unexpectedly, instead of cleaning your rollers and brushes, wrap aluminum foil around them and put in fridge. This keeps them moist and won't let them get hard (leave what paint is on the roller and brush when you do this.) You can keep them in the fridge for up to 3 days and they are still soft and ready to use. * HATE DOING THE BORDERS NEAR THE CARPET? Use a 4 - 5" putty knife and jam between the carpeting and the border then paint above the putty knife. Before going on wipe the putty knife on an old towel or rag. Continue. It's quick and easy and saves paint on the carpet. Always have a damp cloth along with you to clean up any mistakes or drips you have made and do it immediately! * HATE DOING AROUND WINDOWS OR THOSE DOOR KNOBS: Use a little vaseline or veggie oil on the door knob or just inside of windows before painting. This makes for easily removing any paint that may get on the door knob or glass. You can do the same thing for light switches. When painting trim get a decent amount of paint on your brush (NEVER dry brush ... that means starting out with a wet brush and continuing while the brush is not loaded with paint. Go down the trim, then back up and feather lightly so there are no blotches of paint. ** If you can handle it wear rubber dish gloves to keep hands and nails clean. If not, the Latex paint comes off well with soap and water and a little scrubbing.

In most cases, you can't and get a good durable finish - there will be minimal adhesion between the two, even with the oil paint well sanded.

with universal tints that are made especially for paint. You can guy them at a paint store if you want to, but you would be much better off to have the paint store tint the paint for you.

Is Using minwax Polycrylic clear coat over latex paint fine?

You cannot paint over slightly tacky latex paint with a water based polycyclic finish. You should always wait until the latex paint is thoroughly dry before painting over it.

Can you mix satin finish paint with eggshell finish paint?

More important is, that both paints are of the same kind (like: oil-based paint, acrylic paint, latex paint). Semi-gloss is more easily painted over then high gloss, but first better find out what the old paint layer is made of. Check with the help of alcohol - if paint comes off in any way when you rub it with a cloth of alcohol, it's latex or acrylic paint (and can be painted over with acrylics).

Can you use a latex primer under enamel paint?

Latex paint can be used as a primer but the results may not be what you want. Primer is less expensive than latex paint and has special qualities that create a seal and help the finish layer of paint adhere better. In the long run you will save time and money by using the correct product for the job.

Do you need a special product to cover eggshell before painting over it with flat paint?

Egg shells (used in many craft projects) are quite porous, and will give your paint an excellent ground. Remember however a flat paint will not be very durable (it should not be washed or cleaned) so consider a clear top coat in what ever gloss factor you like. If however if you are asking about the paint finish called eggshell (one having the ability to be gently washed) then it will depend on the age of the "eggshell" paint, the composition of the two (eggshell & flat) paints and the colour of the "eggshell". If the "eggshell" is older than a year, latex or acrylic based and a light colour, then a good washing with TSP or some other gloss remover, and going over it with one or two coats of a good quality flat latex, oil or acrylic paint should do the trick. Oil paint can be directly applied over latex, acrylic or oil... Latex can be directly applied over latex or acrylic but not oil... Acrylic can be directly applied over latex or acrylic but not over oil. If the "eggshell" is less than a year old, oil based or a deep colour, then a good quality primer coat will make the job go much smoother. (Note- use an oil based primer if the "eggshell" is oil based, you can then top coat with any paint formula)

What type of paint should be used for exterior wood?

You can use regular latex house paint to protect the trunk and to detect any damage that might occur although there are other special paints that are also insecticides , that kill and repel ants and other destructive bugs.

Can you paper over washable wallpaper?

Wallpaper placed over washable paint is a bad idea if the paint has a latex base. The latex will be dissolved by the glue in the wallpaper and it will not adhere very well.

What is a durable paint to use in a bathroom?

To paint a bath room you will need a interior paint. Any paint with lead base in it should do the job just fine. The best paint for a bathroom would be latex because they wipe down easily. Avoid lead paints because of the health risks!

Can you put an oil based paint over a latex primer?

You can use it, but it won't last long. Use an oil based primer for oil based paint. The oil-based paint will eventually break down the latex primer. Latex can be painted over oil-based primer, but not the other way 'round. Kilz is your best bet for priming over wood cabinets. Kilz hides things like knot holes, burns, water damage, etc. If your cabinets have knotholes, I would dab the knotholes with primer, let dry, then paint everything with your particular primer. A quick scuff with 150-grit sandpaper would be a good idea also. Hope this helps, if so, please "Recommend Contributor"

How long does oil base primer dry before painting a water base paint?

If you not sure about what kind of paint was used prior to your paint job( an oilbase paint or waterbasepaint)and you want to use an acrilic or latex, always use a primer paint first to prevent blissering.
