I've never done it but here are some instructions: IGNITION KEY LOCK CYLINDER 1. Disconnect negative battery terminal 2. Remove the steering wheel 3. Pry the lock plate cover off, using two screwdrivers. 4. Push the lock ring in sufficiently to allow removal of the ring retainer with two screwdrivers. 5. Remove the lock plate. 6. Remove the retaining screw and remove the turn signal lever. 7. Remove the three retaining screws and the hazard switch button. 8. Remove the trim panel from benieath the steering column to gain access to the turn signal switch harness. 9. Unplug the switch electrical connector. 10. Pull the turn signal switch up sufficiently to provide access to the ignition switch. 11. With the dey in the On position, remove the ignition warning buzzer switch contacts with needlenose pliers. 12. Remove the switch retaining screw. 13. Withdraw the switch from the steering column. IGNITION SWITCH 1. Unbolt the steering column bracket from the dash and lower the column. 2. Unplug the electrical connector from the switch. 3. Turn the ignition key to the LOCK position. Remove the two screws securing the switch to the steering column and remove the switch. GOOD LLLUCK!!!
To change the alternator in a 1985 Chevy Celebrity;
1. Disconnect the battery ground. Use protective gloves.
2. Loosen the belt adjuster bolt and the main mounting bolt. Move the alternator to loosen the drive belt, then remove the drive belt from the alternator pulley.
3. Disconnect the wires from the alternator.
4. Remove the bolts and lift the alternator from its mount.
Reverse the instructions to reinstall the alternator.
As far as bolting on, then yes. However, alternators come in different sizes. Internally, I mean. Amperage wise. If both vehicles have an equaly amount of electrical amenities, then they are probably close. NEW ANSWER: Sorry to be the 1 to say it. But the 85 will not bolt up to the 94 mounting bracket. From 1988----1995 alternators will interchange. And like Bigstrapper said, check the amperage there all different.

I think someone gave you an Internally regulated alternator in place of your external type, it will not work unless you do some major wiring changes.
Most likely the alternator, voltage should be approximately 14 volts with the engine running.
To change the alternator belt an a 1985 Chevy Celebrity: 1. Loosen the adjuster bolt and the mounting bolt. 2. Move the alternator to release the belt tension and remove the belt. Reverse to reinstall a new belt.
