When I asked a girl to a dance I got one of my friends to trip her up and I catch her and I said " Ive been meaning to talk to you, will you go to the dance with me" sure enough she said yes. One way to do it is to charm her first. Pull her away from her friends slowly and carefully so that she won't have too much embarrassment. It is important to ask her alone, especially if she and any of her friends know that you have a crush on her. Word it in a rounded way, don't be abrupt. Get the message to her slowly and she'll probably dance with you! but beware, if you insist too much she'll die of embarrassment. Or, you could take the direct approach and simply say "Do you want to go to the dance with me?"
Ask to talk to her for a minute, then go to a more private place like an almost empty hallway or (if outside) about twenty feet away from her friends. Don't go somewhere totally empty or she'll freak out.
