2d art is flat it is only length and width it is only 2 dimensional, 3d is more in depth and detail to make it seem more realistic which is 3 dimensional.

2D animation is just as it is. It's "flat" animation. Most call it traditional animation, where typically it's drawn on paper and then digitally outlined and colored frame by frame. Some 2D animation is also made with art programs online.
They work exactly the same as how they work when played on a regular DS or DSi.

The importance of 2D art in architecture is to give the architect a general idea and concept of what the actual 3D scaled model is going to look like. It is also used when architects are asked to come up with a concept design of a building and just sketch it out.
