no they did away with the layaway program in 2006
The person above was correct, but starting this year 2011 Walmart is bring back Layaway until Christmas. Blit- items bought will not be included in the layaway this year though. Blitz is the day after Thanksgiving sale.
Walmart in the United States no longer has layaway and has been replaced with site2store. However, Walmart Canada still has layaway.

The person above is correct, but i wish to provide a bit of further information. When walmart eliminated layaway thier hope was that the walmart credit card would take over this, and they really did try and promote this within some stores as an alternative. Personally, I would rather use layaway than the credit card though.
Walmart did bring in site2store (free shipping to your local walmart from walmart.com), and also is expanding on pick up today (order on walmart.com on select items and your local store will go shopping for you on those items and have them ready for you to pick up that same day or the next day depending on what time your order was submitted). Thier is much talk that this pickuptoday is not catching on as the company hoped, and they are rethinking even keeping it.

, Wal-Mart requires a down payment of $10 or 10% (whichever is greater) of the item you want to put on layaway. They also need a $15 "Open Fee" which is refundable but this varies by state. The total purchase must be over $50, and individual items must be $15 or more. Layaway begins September 16th and ends December 14th with the final payment. The layaway process basically allows you the freedom to pay for the items on your own payment plan so long as it is all paid before December 14th.
Starting this year 2011 walmart is bringing back layaway in oct and ending before christmas. The day after thanksgiving items (Blitz day), will not be allowed to be put on layaway.
Walmart is having the associates promote the walmart credit card instead. They are saying look, you can take it home and pay on it that way. I work for walmart and most people would rather use layaway and avoid the fees, including me, LOL> There were people who abused layaway, by putting an item on layaway, and then asking for extensions to see how much they might get marked down during seasonal times of the year. wwamanager@yahoo.com
Kmart does have layaway, but you would have to pay a little each week until christmas.
Kmart as we know is a big store and they have layaway, having the policy will change depending on area. In New York Kmart layaway is only for 8 weeks and includes a service and cancellation fee.
Yes you can the restrictions at Kmart are for clearence items. They do charge a small fee for putting items on layaway. Some stores have longer layaway periods than others so be sure to get the details for your store.
Walmart does not have year round layaway on electronics.

Layaway is only offered on Jewelry at Walmart. -------------------- The person who answered above is partially correct. Walmart allows layaway in Jewelry and also in select stores they do allow layaway on special ordered guns (guns that the store does not carry in stock, but are specially ordered). Also this year 2011 walmart will have layaway starting in the middle of october for customers and the first part of october for associates (walmart employees), and will end during december before christmas. The Blitz items (day after thanksgiving sale items) will not be allowed to be put on layaway, and some stores are planning on not allowing any new items to be put on layaway that day to avoid confussion.

There are a few layaway stores, including Sear, Best Buy, Toys R' Us, and Wal-Mart. However, the stores named may not all have computers available for purchase.
