you better believe it, at least in California there is! death and taxes! from what I understand, if your services (photography) lead to a tangible product (prints, albums, CD of images), then there's sales tax, and the sales sale,(e.g., 6%, 8%, whatever it is for your state) is on the total package, not on just the cost of prints, or albums. however, if you shoot something, and you only offer a place where clients can download their images, such as an FTP server, then there's no sales tax b/c nothing tangible was delivered. so, I guess a more correct answer would be that it depends. here's a link to California's state board of equalization website, a PDF file you can read more on taxes for photographers. there may be a similar one for your state.. ask the google master! http://www.boe.ca.gov/pdf/pub68.pdf

There is not a definitive answer, if found the following...According to a document from MyFlorida.comhttp://dor.myflorida.com/dor/pdf/fot0710.pdf"Photographers: Some photographers sell tangible personal property with the services they provide. Often this makes the entire charge taxable. They also buy goods from other states and import them for use in Florida."

Business sales tax is a standard rate around the state of Florida. The current ongoing rate is set at 6%
The answer is - it depends, but the answer is somewhat complicated. If you have the car shipped directly from the dealer to your home state, then no Florida sales tax applies. Let's presume you are driving the car off the lot yourself. Florida will charge you sales tax on this purchase, but if the right paperwork is filled out (Form DR-123), then the sales tax rate will only be as high your home state sale tax rate (with a ceiling of the Florida sales tax rate). So if you live in a state with a 3% sales tax, the Florida dealer should only charge you a 3% sales tax if you sign the right forms. Any sales tax you pay in Florida can be credited to the taxes that are due when you get your tag in your home state. Worthy of note, if your state has a zero sales tax rate on cars (such as Montana or Georgia), then the dealer does not have to charge you Florida sales tax. Yes. Photographers must collect 7% sales tax on products (photos, etc) and services (shoot fees, charges for editing, etc) when sold in NJ. The services that a photographer provides are considered to be producing tangible personal property (i.e. photographs) which is taxable in NJ. Please note: If you are sending the finished product electronically to your customer, and no tangible print will be issued, sales tax is not due. Also, photographers may be able to receive a tax break on equipment purchased for use in the profession. For example, a professional photographer can purchase cameras, tripods, films/memcards (or repairs to such equip) without paying NJ sales tax on the purchase. NJ exemption certificate ST-4 must be used by photographers for these types of tax-free purchases. For more information, please see NJ's sales tax publication ANJ-2 for photographers at: http://www.state.nj.us/treasury/taxation/pdf/pubs/sales/anj2.pdf
