Norman Rockwell is figurative and he tells a story. Jackson Pollock's paintings are non-figurative, which means there is no discernable subject.

Pollock's paintings are abstract, i.e. you cannot recognize a subject.

In Monet's paintings you can see people or a landscape or a railway station or whatever the subject is.
