Close to the same. Enamel just means that it's a hard finish. If you're painting a door, trim or anywhere that will be handled often and you must use a water based paint, an enamel is the way to go.
Fiberglass won't take stain. You need to get all the flaking paint off, scuff the surface and then paint with an enamel type paint. A yacht supply store will set you up.
I've found that the best thing to do is get it laminated. All paints fade and don't look new after a while but getting it laminated keeps it looking shiny and new! A few years ago I got mine done fairly cheap from a company called Excelsiordirect (they have a website explaining in better detail, I'm not really a pro when it comes to this sorta stuff!) but i do know that it looks loads better laminated than painted, and it still looks good as new :)
Use thinner for that paint.
Yes, I can! A GRP (Glass Reinforced Polyester) door is easily painted in the same way a fiberglass door is painted. You can successfully paint a GRP door too by following the instructions in the related link.

For raw wood, it is recommended to use a high-quality stain-blocking primer before applying semi-gloss enamel paint. This helps provide a smooth base and enhances the durability and finish of the enamel. Make sure to choose a primer suitable for both wood surfaces and enamel paints.

To effectively paint a metal door for a long-lasting and professional finish, follow these steps: Clean the door thoroughly to remove dirt, grease, and rust. Sand the surface to create a smooth base for the paint to adhere to. Apply a primer specifically designed for metal surfaces to improve adhesion and prevent rust. Use a high-quality paint suitable for metal, such as enamel or acrylic. Apply multiple thin coats of paint, allowing each coat to dry completely before applying the next. Consider using a paint sprayer for a smooth and even finish. Allow the paint to cure fully before using the door.
