whats the gap size for a 1985 e150 econoline conversion van (carbed)
=======================================================
According to one of Fords websites :
For a 1985 Ford E-150 :
All engines have the spark plugs gapped at ( .044 inch )
* the HIGH ALTITUDE version of the 4.9 liter six , the spark plugs are gapped at .054
Dump the gas tank out of it. the fuel pump there.
It is located/accessed from the engine bay, passenger side of the firewall.
Could be worn ball joints, worn steering linkages, worn/out of adjustment steering box and or worn/out of adjustment wheel bearings.
It does have an Ignition Control Module. It is mounted under the distributer cap by 2 screws and has wires plugged into it. they are $40-$60 dollars to buy from your local AutoZone, Napa, or O'Reily Auto Parts stores. Beware: you must remove airbox and hoses to get to the ICM and it is very difficult to get out after that anyhow.
I had the same problem on my 1988 and would have to leave it on. On that motor, there is a heat shield that surrounds the starter and if it is not there, when the motor heats up it will transfer that heat to the starter simulating a bad battery/starter problem. Once it cools down it starts fine. Start looking from there or get a remote starter (like I did) so you can leave it running when you run into somewhere fast.
