the space is there it just depends on how much work you are willing to do. to swap that engin you will need to swap the trans, driveshaft, electrical, radiator, and fuel pump, as well as a boatload of other little things.

All you need to do that swap is different motor mounts, ones that will match up to the body (1997). The motor is the same and will run but for the easiest/safest swap you should bring the ECU (the car's computer), wiring, and transmission from the 1999 donor car.

Not directly, this swap will take A LOT of modification to work. You would NOT want to use the original transmission with the newer 5.0 motor. No because the 5.0 was not made for the mustangs in 98. It was the 4.6, and you can either swap a 4.6 or an earlier year 5.0 but it will be time consuming and expensive. I also hope to do a swap myself.
