There is no exact figure for this after all puppy mills are illegal, so who in their right mind would openly advertise the fact that they operate a puppy mill. This means the exact number of puppy mills is unknown there could be as many as 10,000 puppy mills in the United States alone. Puppy mills can have as many as a couple hundred to over a thousand dogs for breeding each. The average litter contains one to four puppies, how many depends on the breed. Also puppy mill owners breed their females every time they come into heat, how many times depends on the breed of dog, but the average is four times a year. Now no responsible breeder will breed a dog that often it is hazerdous to the dogs health however puppy mills breed their dogs every time they go into heat, they even go so far as to ween the puppies from their mother's earlier than is safe so as to cause the mother to go into heat faster. Just to give you a sense of the magnitude of this lets I will take the guestamations I have gathered and try and come up with a number for you. Say there are 10,000 puppy mills in the United States and on average there are about 500 breedable females in every puppy mill, (500 is just an arbitrary number even with a vague sense of how many dogs a puppy mill usaully has I have no way of knowing how many of those are breedable females). That is a total of 5,000,000 breedable female dogs. Because the typical litter contains one to four dogs I will guess that each litter would produce 3 puppies, I am also going to assume that the female is bred every time she comes into heat, about four times a year. So in a year each female dog produces twelve puppies. Multiply that with the number of female dogs and that amounts to 60,000,000 puppies every year. Divide that by the number of days in a year and you end up with an average of about 164,384 puppies born a day. That is a mind boggling amount, even though the numbers are nothing more than guesses.

It is different with each dog. Ask a vet, or an experianced breeder.

Most chain-pet stores that sell puppies get their dogs from puppy mills. Many petstores (excluding animal shelters, of course) get their dogs from puppy mills.
From the information I've read, and seen, yes, all puppies are born with blue eyes. Many have tints of different colors though. The blue in a puppy's eyes can be different shades-many are blueish-grey.
A typical puppy mill can house from 500 to over 100,000 puppies at one time. It all depends on the size of the operation, really.
Puppy mills do not focus on the welfare of their dogs or puppies but rather focus on profits. Many of the puppies purchased from puppy mills have not been treated well and the validity of their pureness of breed is not guaranteed.
There are many websites available online where you can find puppy genitalia pictures, which will help you distinguish male puppy from female puppy.
A puppy is a puppy; there are no different "kinds" of puppies -- it is a description of any canine that is immature, usually prior to one year of age.
