There's no knowing exactly. Any answer would be an estimate. You'd have to figure out all of the things kept off the market because they were found dangerous during testing, and then estimate how many people would have used them, and how many of those people would have died from their use.

There are institutional review boards that oversee testing to ensure that the animals are treated as well as possible.
