Animals may resemble another for one of two reasons. The first is mimicry, as demonstrated by insects such as hoverflies that resemble wasps in order to scare off would-be predators that wish to avoid getting stung. The second is convergent evolution, when animals resemble one another because they inhabit a similar niche within their ecosystem - an example would be the wolf and the thylacine, otherwise known as the Tasmanian wolf.
The evolution of a species is when it changes itself slightly over thousands of years, to adapt to new surroundings. These new surroundings could have different weather, or predators that the species must be able to conceal itself from.
