Your Answer is here... Qualitative and quantitative differences in proteins expressed in the middle silkglands of male and female silkworm larvae that differ in silk colour were investigated by high resolution two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (2-D PAGE), followed by computer-assisted image analysis. About 1000 protein spots were resolved in both the sexes and most of the proteins ranged from 15 to 70 kDa and pH 4-8. Some proteins displayed higher expression in yellow cocoon, while two proteins were only expressed in female silkworm silkgland tissue through comparison and analysis using the 2-D software. These proteins especially existed in female silkworm middle silkgland tissue of yellow cocoon. Furthermore, these proteins might be involved in the expression of cocoon colour phenotype. Regards, M. The covering of a silkworm cocoon is called a silk filament or silk thread. It is made up of a protein called fibroin, which is secreted by the silkworm to form the cocoon.
A silkworm can make a cocoon anywhere even on the ground. it prefers the bark of trees though.
A silkworm is a type of caterpillar. It takes a silkworm about three days to spin its cocoon around themselves. They use one long thread to spin the cocoon and if it is disturbed, the silkworm must start over.
Genetics is the difference between the pink silkworm cocoon or the white cocoon. Silkworms in the wild spun yellow silk to blend into the dead foliage. Today silkworm farmers are beginning to selectively breed for different colors.
There is a hole.
1 cm
The silkworm in a cocoon is thrown into boiling water to kill the silkworm. The silk is then untangled and processed into a stronger silk thread. If the silkworm is allowed to mature in the cocoon, it will make a hole (damaging the silk) as it emerges from the cocoon.
A silkworm will stop spinning ts cocoon once it has wrapped itself completely in the cocoon.
It takes 25 to 28 days to fully spin its cocoon
A silkworm comes out of the silk cocoon as a moth, if its life is allowed to complete a full cycle.
about 3 or 4 days
No. Silk is a natural product exuded from a silkworm as a cocoon.
