There are many things that happen to animals such as:
* Hunting which causes extinction.
* water pollution which causes death.
* Bull fighting.
* factory farming.
* Putting animals in zoos can cause them stress therefore resulting in death.
* and there are many more.
If you have not noticed yet all of the things listed above are all the things that us humans are doing to them.
Animals are harmed many ways, sadly. People could abuse them, by hitting them, or putting a collar too tight on them. They could make them fight each other, or even shoot them. Sometimes they harm them not physically, but by doing things like not giving them water, food, or medical treatment they need. Other ways could be just natural, like if they are harmed by a disease or sickness.

There's no limit on bad things happening.
One of the bad things of isolationism is that it can lead to bad things happening in other countries. These bad things can at some point impact your own country. Another bad thing about it is that it can lead a country to not really understand what is happening in other parts of the world. This can be dangerous.
Nature IS the environment.
Lots of "bad things" can happen; basically you need to analyze each of them separately.
