i think it would be because they have absolutley no moving space or room. why would you do that to the poor animal? unless you are punishing the dog/ animal i would say that sure is animal cruelty. so if i were you i would most definitly not do that! Putting the animal in a crate or otherwise restraining them while driving is wise. However, do not put any living thing into the trunk of a vehicle.
