∙ 10y agoThe point directly above the focus of an earthquake is called the epicenter. It is usually the point of greatest destruction.
The epicenter
When no current is present, the compass needles will align themselves with the Earth's magnetic field, pointing towards the magnetic north pole. This is because the Earth's magnetic field exerts a force on the compass needle, causing it to align in a north-south direction.
A freely suspended magnet aligns itself in the north-south direction because the Earth itself acts like a giant magnet with its magnetic poles located near the geographic North and South poles. The magnetic field of the Earth exerts a force on the magnetic poles of the freely suspended magnet, causing it to align north-south.

Epicenter
There is no point on the earths surface that experiences night for 24 hours every day.
The focus is the point in the earths crust where the earthquake originates and the epicentre is the point in the earths surface directly above the focus.
