Theseus lost this father (king of Athens) beacuse Theseus said if he died from the minotaur he would keep the flags balck on his ship. Theseus DID in fact kill the minotaur but beacuse of his new love (woman who helped him, but thats another story) he forgot to put up white flags which meant he was alive. Seeing that the flags were white his father jumped off a cliff drowning into the water.

Why not? A good, strong woman!
If I'm not mistaken, it was Ariadne, the King's daughter. She fell in love with him and helped him escaped. There is actually another story that says after they sailed away, Theseus broke her heart and dumped her on an island and Dionysus found her and fell in love with her.
