Looking back through history, one can truthfully say that Britain has never been conquered by a foreign country. The Romans came closest, but they settled for England and Wales and built Hadrian's wall to keep out the Scots. Now Britain has been invaded by foreigners, such as the Vikings, but the invaders did not take over the entire country, they either raided and ran or settled into communities and eventually intermarried with the native Britons. The same for the Norman conquest. William, who had a claim to the English throne, came over for personal reasons, not national ones. Even though the Normans stayed, one cannot consider Britain being conquered by France because the Normans, for the most part, cut their allegiance to France and considered themselves independent.
