Augustus neither saved the Roman Republic nor did he destroy it, he changed it.
The Roman Republic had self-destructed by the time of Julius Caesar. Augustus, being one of the most politically astute men in history, used the mechanisms of the Republic to consolidate the power in himself. Thus, the change from Republic to Principate was for the most part a smooth transition. This was aided by the fact that the Romans were sick and tired of the civil wars and that Augustus had a long reign so the idea of the Principate could be firmly established.
Cleopatra VII did not save her country. Read a history book! She lost her country to the Roman empire.
The Roman Republic was created with the overthrow of the last king of Rome, who was a tyrant, in 509 BC. The Romans decided to abolish the monarchy and establish the republic. The purpose of the republic was to avoid the return of tyranny. The king was replaced by two annually elected consuls. Having two men in charge meant that they could counterbalance each other. The short term of office meant that no one could concentrate power in their hands. The Romans also swore not to let anyone try to became a king. Monarchy was associated with tyranny. In the early republic one man was made to commit suicide and another one was executed because of accusations of trying to become a king. The intention of the assassination of Julius Caesar in 44 BC was to save the republic. The conspirators thought that he was aiming at becoming a king and therefore a tyrant.
Cincinnatus was a hero of legendary proportions in the Republic Period of ancient Rome (and even long afterward) on account of the virtue that he displayed. Committed to living a quiet, simple life, he nevertheless did his duty for Roman society when there was need. In fulfilling his duty, he kept the good of Rome in view at all times, never succumbing to the temptation to use public office for personal profit. When his duty was done, he happily returned to his private life.
In the Aeneid, Aeneas proves to be heroic. First of all, he is an ideal Roman. He thinks like an ideal Roman: 1.Courage- Save the city of Troy 2. Loyal- Save the king 3. Faithful- Save the family 4. Obedient- Obeyed his mom and did not kill Helen 5. Leader- Leads others despite personal sufferings He thought of all these things in order 1,2,3,4,5!
Between 600 BC and 44 BC Rome had two forms of government, not three: a monarchy (which lasted 244 years, form 753 BC to 509 BC and a republic, which lasted from 509 BC to 27 BC. The assassination of Julius Caesar in 44 BC did not mark the end of the republic. In fact his assassination was meant to save the republic. This form of government lasted until Octavian won the final civil war of the Republic in 30 BC and its end was formalised in 27 BC. The third form of government was rule by emperors, which lasted from 27 BC to 476 AD.

ANSWERJulius Cesar and his adopted son Octavian which the senate changed to AugustusANSWERAlthough Julius Caesar and Augustus worked to improve the lives of the Roman people, they did not work to restore the Roman Republic. The Republic refers to the time in Rome's history where its government was made up of elected officials, and not headed by any one person. Julius Caesar, actually, was the man who ended the Republic by making himself dictator of Rome. So, to save the Republic, Brutus (who Caesar thought was his friend), along with several other senators, successfully assassinated Caesar. However, instead of the Republic being restored, a long civil war began, at the end of which, Augustus became the single leader of Rome, although he shared some power with the Senate, so that he wouldn't meet the same fate as his father by adoption.Long and the short of it, Brutus and several senators who killed Caesar were the ones who tried to save the Republic.
