The first ten amendments were added to the Constitution because the Antifederalists didn't trust the government and didn't think they would give them rights! Basically, the first ten amendments known as the Bill of Rights were added to the constitution as a compromise between the Federalists and the Anti- Federalists.

To change according to society. Ex.- Say the Constitution says "African-Americans are lesser people." [Which it doesn't!], an amendment would change this to fit our society of all are equal.

Amendments were added to the Constitution in order to improve it. As you should know, the Constitution was created in order to create a better government than was under the Articles of Confederation. Well the amendments were put into place as improvements to that better government, and to better the rights of the people.

They didn't. The US Supreme Court is not part of the formal constitutional amendment process.

Constitutional Amendments may be proposed by either the House of Representatives or the Senate, then must pass both houses of Congress by a two-thirds vote. If Congress votes to support an amendment, the proposal is passed to the states for ratification. If three-quarters (actually 39) of the states ratify (endorse) the amendment, then it is adopted and becomes law.

The US Supreme Court uses the Constitution as a tool to evaluate cases and challenged legislation to ensure they comply with constitutional principles. This is sometimes referred to as an "informal amendment process" because the meaning of the Constitution is open to interpretation that may change over time.

There were many reasons that it was found necessary to add the amendment process to the US Constitution. The main reason was to provide a way for changes to be made that would meet the needs of the citizens and provide for the protection of their rights.
