The only successful Prohibition Party candidate in the 21st century has been the tax assessor of Thompson Township in Pennsylvania.
Ineffective, pointless, it creates a criminal class of users, and a separate criminal class of providers that would otherwise not be successful. Worse in today's world is the fact that so many are in jail for violating prohibition.
Prohibition was not successfully enforced overall. While some areas saw a decrease in alcohol consumption, prohibition led to an increase in organized crime, illegal alcohol production, and smuggling. The ban on alcohol was eventually repealed with the 21st Amendment in 1933.

Because of Prohibition, people who were able to produce and ship illegal supplies of alcoholic beverages (in a practice known as bootlegging) were able to make massive profits. Al Capone was a highly successful bootlegger, and much of his criminal empire's profits were based on bootlegging.
