Colonists who opposed Britain and wanted freedom were patriots. Colonists who were loyal to Britain were loyalists or Tories. Most of the colonists wanted or didn't want freedom, so there really was no need to a name.
The British were trying to make the colonists pay taxes to Britain and continue to serve them in ANY capacity. Basically serving the British as if they lived in Britain! The colonists didn't think they should have to live under the rule of Britain without being able to form their own government or setting rules apart from the Mother England. England wanted to keep control of the colonies. Colonists wanted to be separate from England.
France helped the colonists in the Revolutionary War after the battle of Saratoga in which the colonists proved they had a chance in winning the war. However, France only helped the colonists because they were mad at Britain and did not want Britain to win the war.
They didn't want to go on an all out war with Britain
The revolutionary war was a war between the colonists and Britain. The colonists were fighting for freedom, and Britain was trying to stop them from getting that freedom and independence.
To show the colonists that war with Britain was their only option. Apex
