president grant was a much better general than president,that said he was rocked by three scandals,the jay gould 1869 scandal,credit mobilier 1872 scandal,the whiskey ring 1879 scandal.also mr.grant did not run for a third term mainly due to a deep economic depression of 1873,he failed to run in 1876.others may improve on this answer but it's a good start.
