You need to specify what country you are talking about- no one was in power worldwide. I can tell you who was in power in the USA, the UK, the USSR and China. In the USA it was President Harry S. Truman until January 1953, when Dwight D. Eisenhower became President until 1961. In the UK, Winston Churchill was re-elected as Prime Minister in 1950- he stood down due to failing health in 1955 and was replaced by Anthony Eden. Eden was forced to resign in 1957 following the Suez Crisis, and was replaced by Harold MacMillan, who was PM until 1963. In the USSR, Stalin was leader until his death early in 1953- he was replaced by a quartet of statesmen who governed by 'Collective Leadership'; they were Georgi Malenkov, Nikita Krushchev, Nikolai Bulganin and Vyacheslav Molotov. Although Malenkov was effective Soviet leader to begin with, Krushchev had all but ousted him and the other two by 1957, due to their complicity in Stalin's atrocities, and assumed the role of Soviet leader. In China, Mao Tse-Tung was leader throughout the 1950s (and, indeed, up until his death in 1976). General Charles deGaulle was French President from 1958 to 1969. For other countries, you'll need to look up their recent histories on Wikipedia to be more specific.
