The motto reads "In God We Trust". It should be noted that the motto was added to coinage and currency during troubled times when people needed to reinforce the belief that the God of The Bible is on our side.

The phrase was added to currency during the same decade "One Nation Under God" was added to the Pledge of Allegiance as a similar response to "godless communism".

Coins

The motto was first put on 2¢ pieces in 1864, during the Civil War, as an expression of faith in terrible times. It was gradually added to other denominations of coins over the years; the last denomination to get the motto was the nickel starting in 1938.

Bills

Many people are surprised to find older paper money without the motto, but in fact its use wasn't extended to bills until about a half-century ago. In response to the perceived threat of "godless communism" during the Cold War, in 1955 Congress ordered that the motto also be placed on paper money. The first bills to carry it were $1 silver certificates printed during and after 1957. These included a new 1957-dated series and some 1935-G and all 1935-H bills that were printed at the same time. By 1963 all other denominations had been redesigned to include the motto as well.

Rumors of Removal

Rumors persist among right-wing and fundamentalist religious groups that there is a "conspiracy" to remove the motto from American money. Those rumors were made worse when a few 2007-dated Presidential dollars were accidentally minted without the motto when mint employees forgot to add edge lettering to several batches of the new coins. Despite the fact that the mistake also deleted the coins' date, mint mark, and the motto "E Pluribus Unum" as well as "In God We Trust", the error was seized on as another example of a clandestine attempt to secularize American currency. In reality the presence of the motto is not an issue for the vast majority of Americans, and there are NO plans whatsoever to change it.

What is original intent?

Original Intent in scientific terms is reading a researchers paper and trying to understand what their original intent with the paper was. You then start to highlight the parts of the paper where the results start to differ from what the writer intended the results to be.

What official types of money did people use in the US immediately after the revolutionary war?

Everything. Literally. Everything. The financial state of the US was a complete train wreck. Different states printed their own money. The exchange rates were different depending on the state you were in. The new nation tried unsuccessfully to print a national currency, but it didn't work. They were in debt, terrible, terrible debt, and tried to print more money. It didn't work either. The US did not start using the dollar until the early 1790s when Alexander Hamilton became Secretary of the Treasury, and successfully sorted out the entire US financial problem. But for the seven years after the Treaty of Paris the US' finance was in a terrible state indeed.

Can you give reasons to trust the U.S. government?

They have more guns and the will to use them. Other countries have lots of weapons too. The ones that don't have guns probably also lack running water or medicine. Be a big boy and choose a side. _________________________________________________________________ Honestly to tell you the truth i used to have full trust in our government until they started spitting out and stuttering on obvious lies after the Kennedy incident, after they started lying on all that, i lost absolutely every single last bit of trust i had in our government, and i still don't trust then at all, and honestly neither should you. Think about this for a second, why do we still trust them now? 1. they defend us from invasions 2....... yup thats right there is no second, they say there fighting things like inflation but there not, it they wanted to truly fight inflation they would take there precious money machine and rip out the plug and start paying the debt with there own money from taxes and junk, not just print print print, more, the more they print to pay there debt the lower its value, they way i see it, with in 30 years we will need a tuck full of money just to get a gallon of milk or a loaf of bread, think about it people. our government, is screwing us over no matter how you look at it if you just take the time to actually think. Speaking of the government screwing us and the post above mine about them having the will to use our guns, well i can tell you this much when martial law decides to rear its head, i wont be afraid to fire upon our own supposed "Protectors", to protect my family from getting dragged to one of supposed "FEMA housing developments" those are prisons for us to die, not small housing communities, think about this for 1 second WHY IN THE HELL DO THEY ALL HAVE BARBED WIRE FACING INWARD? THAT IS DONE TO KEEP PEOPLE IN NOT OUT. Think about that one everyone and i hope you see things a bit differently and start to see things as they truly are.
