The general distrust of today is a relatively recent phenomenon. Until well into the 1960's, moderate party members on both Parties dominated Washington politics, cooperated on issues and saw to it that 'things got done'. But by the 70's, the liberal and even moderate Republicans had faded away, resulting between then and now in an almost ultra-conservative Republican Congress, dominated by Tea Party members that is totally uncompromising on any subject and that will fight the President tooth and nail on any subject. The Democrats in Congress in reaction also took a hard-line stance against the Republicans, resulting in a situation where bipartisan action on anything has become impossible and where things no longer can get done as a result. And a general climate in which conservative candidates often do better than moderates has caused the Democrats to become more hard-line too.
The public now only sees bickering between parties, Republicans closing down Government while (literally!) singing 'Nearer my God to Thee" in Committee meetings, blocking any proposal of the Executive Branch, Congress refusing to even meet Supreme Court candidates.
Political candidates - Party representatives - add to the general mistrust themselves, trying to pose as 'outsiders' and vowing to 'clean up' Washington - and glossing over the fact that they themselves have been part and cause of the mess they now vow to clean up. Things do not 'get done' and no political party is coming up with any idea of how to come to a stand-down.
Actually during his Presidency there were NO political parties. There were opposite views, but the parties hadn’t formed. He was against them and felt that instead of serving the people they would only be concerned for themselves.
Since the time of ancient Rome, people have divided into political parties. The reason that people do so is because of strong differences in opinion in regards to public policy and the role of government.
One of the major parties takes over their ideas ^^
Political parties formed in America due to their mistrust of a strong central government. Not only were these parties crucial in securing state rights, they also helped elect the right people to key positions within the federal government. Political parties were also formed to maintain a fair presence in the political arena. For example: the Republican party mainly favored wealthy Northern industrialists, while the Democratic party supported Southern farmers and slave owners. Today, Republicans are mainly in the South, while the North and the West Coast are havens for democrats.
The reason y this country is in so much debt
The chief reason for political parties is to elect favorable candidates to political offices. People join together, pooling their money, time and energy in order to try to nominate and elect candidates who will advance their political interests.
