President of the Senate
The Vice President is the President of the Senate. He presides over the Senate and casts the tie breaking vote.
In reality, however, this position is more symbolic. The President Pro Tempore presides over the Senate in the Vice Presidents absence (which is often) and the Majority Leader has most of the power.

Under the US Constitution, the Vice-President of the United States presides at the Senate and is thus the President of the Senate. If the Vice-President is not present, then the President Protempore of the Senate presides. The Majority Leader of the Senate is usually also the President Protem.
The President pro tempore (Latin for "president for a time") typically presides in the Vice President's absence. The most senior senator of the majority party is customarily chosen to serve in this position. Like the Vice President, the President pro tempore does not normally preside over the Senate, but typically delegates the responsibility of presiding to junior senators of the majority party.
