Governors are nearly like a president in regards to the fact that they are the highest government official in a certain area. However the president is in charge of a country, and a governor is in charge of a state.
California has the hightest number of state represtentatives, 53 to be exact.

Most states have placed freezes on the salaries of Governors, over the past 2-3 years or many state Governors have refused to accept increases in their salaries, over the past 2-3 years. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger of California, has never accepted his salary, since he was elected in 2003.
