Who is William le baron Jenny?

William Le Barton Jenney was an architect and engineer. Born on September 25th, 1832 in Massatucests, he went to study Architecture and Engineering at Harvard and the École Centrale des Arts et Manufactures in Paris and was a classmate of Gustave Eiffel, designer of the Eiffel Tower. He would serve in the Union Army as an engineer during the Civil War and was a Major station at the Nashville headquarters by wars end. After the war, Jenney would open his architectural offices in Chicago. He also taught architecture at the University of Michigan. He died in San Fransisco on June 14th, 1907. What he is most famous for is applying the previously proposed architectural of using steel framing to bear the weight load of a building, making the building lighter and therefore allowing buildings to be made taller than previous all-masonry buildings, which would have collapsed under their own weight or required ridiculous proportions and too much money for a commercial building. This is the technique that he used to design the Home Insurance Building in Chicago. At 10 stories, it was never the tallest building in the city, but it is considered the world's first skyscraper. The basics of this technique are used in most buildings to this day. He is also known for using steel framing to construct other buildings throughout Chicago, among them the Horticulture Building at the 1892 Chicago World's Fair, 19 South LaSalle Street, the Ludington Building now belonged by Colombia College Chicago, and the Manhattan Building which rose to an unheard of 16 stories in 1891.
