George Washington was the first President of the United States under the new US Constitution. He established the cabinet which states that president may require written opinions of the heads of the executive branch department. And he established cabinet meetings and other procedure for his office. Washington allowed Secretary of Treasury Alexander Hamilton to establish (or at least attempt to) an effective Bank (Bank of America) in order to pay off the national debt of the previous war. Washington also made the first official move which showed that the government was indeed effective by his strong response to the Whiskey Rebellion of 1794 . Lastly Washington's attempts at neutrality in the French Revolution and the ensuing conflicts between France and Britain kept the US mostly free of European crises for a more few years.
Aside from being the first president of the United States (an accomplishment in itself), George Washington did a multitude of admirable things in his time as president. George Washington helped establish the federal government, and organize and unify the states under it. Also, if one counts it as an accomplishment, during the French Revolution when war was ensuing between France and Britain, America assumed a position of neutrality behind Washington.
He established the Judicial Branch, and the Supreme Court. He created the Presidential Cabinet (advisors to the President) established foreign policy, made treaties with other nations, made peace with Great Britain and dealt with the Whiskey Rebellion in the US.
Under President George Washington the Judiciary Act established the federal court system and the first tax laws were adapted. The Bank Act established a nationwide banking system. Also, The Coinage Act was passed giving the federal government the right to create coinage. Other significant events included Washington sending troops to end the Whiskey Rebellion and the Jay Treaty under which the British gave up their forts on its frontier with the US and ensured continued trading with Britain.
