Four- they were Abraham Lincoln, James A. Garfield, William McKinley and John F. Kennedy. Lincoln was shot by a Confederate fanatic, John Wilkes Booth, on 14th April 1865, whilst watching a play called Our American Cousin at Ford's Theatre in New York- he died the following morning of April 15th. Garfield was shot by lawyer Charles J. Guiteau (angry and disillusioned at not receiving a post in the Federal Government he had applied for) on 2nd July 1881, whilst at Sixth Street Station in Washington DC waiting to travel to his old college to deliver an address- he lingered on for a further 10 weeks, finally passing away on 9th September; he had been in office for just 6 months. William McKinley was shot by deranged Polish anarchist Leon Frank Czolgolz on 5th September 1901, whilst attending the Pan-American exposition at Buffalo in New York State- he died just over a week later (his successor, Vice-President Theodore Roosevelt, remains the youngest ever US President, taking over at the age of just 42). John F. Kennedy was shot on 22nd November 1963, whilst travelling through Dallas, Texas in an open-topped motorcade- he died within minutes of the shooting, at the age of only 48. His alleged assassin, a young Marxist named Lee Harvey Oswald, was himself shot dead soon afterwards by Jack Ruby- however, ever since then there has been speculation that Oswald was not the real assassin, and that Kennedy was really shot by the FBI who considered him to be too left wing.
Four U.S. Presidents have been assassinated, all by being shot. They were Abraham Lincoln (1865), James A. Garfield (1881), William McKinley (1901), and John F. Kennedy (1963).
Presidents Andrew Jackson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Ronald Reagan were all shot, but survived.
