The purpose of a cathedral was to glorify God and the arches made the building seem as if it was reaching to heaven. Instead of sitting heavy and earthbound the cathedral seemed to stretch and enforce the power of God over man. The use of the arch also helped support the domes and other features of the building.
How did African American use national attention to change policy in state and local governments in the 1950's and 1960's
b. rapid change was prevalent.
He uses it to know how to charge the customer, how to give change for money, how to know what inventory he has, and how long he has worked.
The factor I prefer to use is relative size of government, and/or the control it exerts over the daily lives of it's citizenry.
The aqueducts that span across the Italian city of Rome and many other locations that used to be a part of the great Roman empire were built by the Romans, but the Romans didn't originally design them. They have influences from India, Persia, and South America, and in turn inspired many more. The Roman aqueducts just happen to be the most famous, partially because of Rome's influence at the time and partially because they are a phenomenal example of the Romans' use of arches in their architecture for both strength and beauty.
They allowed cathedrals to have more windows. They allowed cathedrals to become taller.

One characteristic of Gothic cathedrals is their pointed arches, which help distribute weight more efficiently than rounded arches. Another characteristic is the use of ribbed vaults, which allowed for higher ceilings and more natural light to enter the building through stained glass windows. Flying buttresses are also a distinctive feature of Gothic cathedrals, providing external support for the walls and allowing for thinner walls and larger windows.
Following Romanesque architecture, Gothic architecture began as the result of new structural innovations and an increasing desire to build taller, more heavenly buildings. Gothic Cathedrals are often characterized by their soaring heights, use of pointed arches, rib vaulted interiors, rose windows, elaborate tracery and stained glass windows (often in lancet, if not rose, shapes). French Gothic Cathedrals tend to have choir ambulatories with radiating chapels and are often characterized by a strong attempt to erode the surface of the wall. Gothic architecture began in the area around Paris, but quickly spread throughout Europe in the 13th and 14th centuries. Strong preexisting traditions of with early Christian basilicas in Italy, Ottonian Romanesque cathedrals in Germany, and Anglo-Norman Romanesque cathedrals in England strongly affected the way the Gothic style was adopted outside of Paris. (These are just some examples of the local traditions that led to the local adaptations of Gothic architectural styles). The crazy decorative vaults and strong horizontal emphasis of English Gothic cathedrals are markedly distinct from their French counterparts.
Gothic cathedrals major Churches (cathedrals) built in the 'Gothic' style, a style of architecture that flourished during the high and late medieval period. The style is characterised by use of the pointed arch and it is common for Gothic buildings to have the rib vaulting, buttresses, including flying buttresses. Also large stained glass windows are common, which are often grouped, or have tracery; rose windows, towers, spires and pinnacles; and ornate facades.
Rome used arches in their aqueducts. They also used it in their bridges.
Both pointed arches as well as spires were employed as a means of achieving greater height in the structures. Cathedrals were the skyscrapers of their time. The size, height and placement of these features was greatly dependent upon the country or region where they were constructed.
if you want to put the word cathedrals in a sentence, you would need to put it as an subject, such as "the cathedrals were lined up in a row, whilst the churches felt small compared the gargantuan cathedrals" and I've used the word cathedrals twice! Cathedrals are magnificent churches usually built on Gothic style. The most famous cathedral in the world which is a Paris's landmark along with the Eiffel Tower, is the Notre Dame Cathedral. Italy has great cathedrals as well.
Roman arches revolutionized architecture by allowing for larger and more stable structures. They influenced the development of architectural styles such as Romanesque and Gothic, which are still seen in cathedrals and buildings today. The use of arches also led to the development of other architectural features like vaults and domes.
Roman Architecture is responsible for the use and development of arches. However, we now know that arches were in use in Africa and Egypt prior to roman empire
They use it because it looks cool and it's noticeable.
when we use a pointed object it will hurt the eardrum and we cannot hear
