That's Emile Zola, a man. He was a French Naturalist writer and friend of the Impressionist painters. His books have been translated into English and are really good. The Masterpieceis wonderful and provides insight on his relationship with the painters, but the book made them mad because of its truthful parallels and by the main character's suiside.
